Pathogenesis and Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease-Mineral and Bone Disorder

چکیده
The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasing, and CKD patients are at risk for severe adverse outcomes such as progressive loss of kidney function, cardiovascular (CV) disease, and premature death [1]. CKD-Mineral and Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD) is the clinical syndrome that develops as a systemic disorder of bone and mineral metabolism due to CKD, which is manifested by abnormalities in bone and mineral metabolism [1]. Altera‐ tions in calcium and phosphate metabolism that are frequently observed in secondary hy‐ perparathyroidism of uremia (SHPT), particularly in patients with maintenance hemodialysis, contribute to ectopic calcification, CV disease, and the risk of death [2].

Vitamin D deficiency in children with Chronic Kidney Disease-Mineral Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD) and factors affecting response to cholecalciferol therapy: A quasi-experimental study from low-middle income setting
Background and Objective: Chronic Kidney Disease-Mineral Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD) is characterized by hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia and abnormal vitamin D (VD) metabolism resulting in high parathyroid hormone secretion. The objective of the study was to determine VD status in children with CKD-MBD and the effect of cholecalciferol therapy in these children. Methods: This quasi-experimental st...

متن کاملSuccessful Treatment of Monoclonal Gammopathy of Renal Significance With Bortezomib in the Setting of Post- Viral SARs-CoV-2 Infection: Case Report
Introduction: Monoclonal Gammopathy of Renal Significance (MGRS) is an immunoglobulin proliferative disorder that leads to the destruction of the renal glomerular basement membrane and progression to end-stage renal disease. The pathogenesis of MGRS is similar to that of multiple myeloma and chronic lymphocytic lymphoma but lacks criteria for either disease. This inability to characterize the d...
متن کاملTreatment of chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD).
Disturbances in mineral and bone metabolism play a critical role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular complications in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The term "renal osteodystrophy" has recently been replaced with "CKD-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD)", which includes vascular calcification as well as bone abnormalities. Following this paradigm shift, the Japanese Society for D...
متن کاملThe role of fibroblast growth factor 23 in chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder.
Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 (FGF-23) is a bone-derived hormone involved in the regulation of phosphate homeostasis. FGF-23 levels are extremely elevated in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and there is evidence supporting the role of this hormone in the pathogenesis of Chronic Kidney Disease-Mineral and Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD). Furthermore, recent data associates FGF-23 with the pathogenesis of sys...
